The In Transit Archives began out of an interest and need for women-centric content that was home-grown in the UAE and that discussed stories

concerning girls and women. The conversations take place between myself, Malda, and a female guest and is recorded either in their private space or in

my studio. These recordings result in a documentation of the musings of these women while highlighting the idiosyncrasies involved within the Middle Eastern diaspora, as well as the expatriate culture of the country.

My name is Malda Smadi, I am an artist based in Dubai, UAE. My work mainly explores the female gender, identity, the body in the mediums of painting, drawing, collage and sculpture.

I was born in Damascus, Syria in 1987 and later moved to the UAE in 1990 where I studied Visual Communication at the American University in Dubai (BFA, 2008).
